Stop Staring at Clutter--Get Organized with Kiera Rain
Find Money! Get Organized!
Where's YOUR missing money?
This weekend, I found $950 worth of checks in a paper cluttered home office in Walnut Creek. He also has an overflowing bucket of change to cash in as homework! I found several gift cards, and even better yet, my client has several credit cards now activated that he didn't know he already had, buried in his paper clutter and desk drawers, which will help him to drastically improve his credit score post divorce!

About a year ago now, a daughter hired me as a "gift certificate" for the holidays for her mom. This adventure turned into quite the story to tell! The mom was overwhelmed with tax issues--the IRS kept mailing her, but she was too afraid to open her mail. Soon, she stopped opening ANY of her mail, altogether. She used her guest bedroom as her "Mail Room." Unopened mail and newspapers piled up over months of time. I came in, and started opening everything and sorting/recycling. Guess what I found? A $10,000.00 Check from the IRS TO my client! What a way to start out the New Year!

A mom and daughter who lived in a 2 bedroom condo in Concord called me in to help. I found over $250 CASH, filled a HUGE, tall jar of coins (a big chunk found while organizing their car), and found a hefty stack of gift cards and certificates, making their holidays also Merry and Bright! Let the TLC begin--bring on the spa day gift certificates!

More Amazing Treasure Hunting Stories!

A bachelor in San Ramon cashed in his coin jar and collected, I believe, $85!

Another client, that I had this weekend in fact, got to save on Christmas shopping--she had a ton of gifts already stashed away in various places. We unearthed them, grouped them together, and now she can wrap them and give them to her family and friends! I even helped her with her "Gift Guilt" to re-gift items she didn't care for that were given to her, like an unopened box/bottle of perfume since she doesn't wear perfume.

Another point of reference: a widow who was married to a hoarder had to finally go through his stuff, little by little, as she could emotionally handle during her grief process, as well as tackling the sheer amount of stuff he had. She worked with my referral who sells things for most of my clients, and she made over $10 grand in selling things! She was able to hire a tree service and do some home remodeling and repairs with the extra cash!
Treasure Trunk for Memories...And WINE!
Speaking of a "Treasure Trunk"
I tell every client to have a "Treasure Box." A Treasure Box/Trunk is a place to keep your sacred sentimental items--photos, trinkets, your first pay stub, movie tickets on your first date with your partner, your kids' first outfit home from the hospital, etc. It can be a small box for some, each family member can have their own, or they can have a more creative storage choice. Here's one to the left--and throw in a bonus: you can also store WINE with your memories! What's better than drinking wine while going through all of your sentimental items and photos? Now you just need some music playing in the background from your high school days.
