Hi, Ya'll--and Happy August!

Fall is my favorite time of the year (especially October when it's even cooler outside and Halloween fun awaits). Fall is also known for BACK TO SCHOOL! And if you've been seeing the Target Back-to-School commercials, you know it also means school supply and clothes shopping, upcoming paper clutter, homework management, busy mornings, after school sports and activities, games on the weekends and more! Shew--Busy Life when you're a parent!

July was a VERY busy month for me as a Professional Organizer with everyone moving and unpacking, and now the calls/emails I'm getting are, "Kiera, I need your help getting my kids organized for back to school--there's just too much to deal with, and I'm sick of having to shut their bedroom door just so I don't have to stare at the constant tornado aftermath!"

I help kids and parents alike for Back to School by sorting, purging, organizing. I organize bedrooms, closets, playrooms, backpacks, school supply bins, toy clutter, memorabilia, filing cabinets, and more!

I coach clients through the decision-making process, and set-up systems for functionality, tailored specifically with how my clients think and see the world. I teach the kids/parents how to become Self-Organized. As an extra bonus, at the end of each session, I provide free donation and recycling haul-away services! "Let's just make a Maybe Pile." It's inevitable that I'll hear this when starting with a new client.

"Nope. Let's talk it out and decide if it's a keep or don't keep. If we did maybes, this really will take forever. Feel confident in your decision-making, think it over and weigh it out. Go with your gut, and TRUST your gut. Give the item its 15 seconds of fame and talk it out with yourself."

Ask yourself:

  • On a Scale of 1-10, how much do you LOVE it? If it's a 7-10, keep it! This is especially true with clothing and home decor. If you don't love it, don't decorate yourself or your home with it.
  • Does it bring up bad memories or feelings? Don't keep it. (I loved watching my client smash her wedding plate in the driveway, years after her divorce.)
  • Are you REALLY gonna use it again?
  • How much space, time and money is this ONE item taking up out of your life? Remember, it still costs you every month on your rent/mortgage for that garage space, even that corner in your closet.
