Put out free items ($50 or less resale value, big/baulky items) on the curb that are reusable/good condition. Take to thrift store what isn't taken after 1-2 days.
Additionally, you can post on OfferUp, Next Door, Facebook Buy Nothing Groups, FB Marketplace to attract local pickups so you don’t pay for hauling and your neighbors benefit directly.
I always put on the free curb alert ads: “FREE! On curb at [address]! No holds. First come, first serve. Not checking messages. Will delete ad when all gone.”
