Organizing Tips Bags, Bags and More Bags! And, o, those boxes too! And all those containers, baskets, and more stuff to stuff stuff in.  Almost 100% of my clients have an abundance of bags, boxes and containers that they think they need to hold on to for multiple reasons: to get organized, take back an item, store an item, saving it for the next move, had 'em so they kept 'em mentality, might use them in the future, etc. Well, I'm here to tell you get rid of 'em! Yep. You will be flabberghasted with how much space you're using just to store empty boxes and bags. De-Clutter and Recycle! Target! Need to dispose of an old cell phone, or just looking for an easier way to recycle bottles and plastic bags? Target wants to help. In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day April 22, the retail chain set up recycling stations in all of its locations across the country a couple years ago. Four bins are in every Target by the entrance/customer service -- for trash, plastic bags, glass bottles/aluminum, and small electronics. Way to go, Target! Donate to Your Local Library! Go through your bookshelves--what books do you no longer read? No longer want? Had the best intentions of one day reading, but if you haven't read it yet, you're probably not going to. Someone gave you the book and it's not your taste? Donate! A Kindle, by the way, is a great way to save space from bulky books if you enjoy reading from one. De-Clutter & Donate the Magazine Piles! Take magazine stacks to your local hospital waiting room or doctor's office--doesn't matter if they're outdated. People need to distract themselves and will appreciate a variety of magazines to flip through. You can also take them to a daycare center or elementary school--they make great school projects for teachers! Drop off your donation with the school secretary. Professional Clothing & Accessory Donations! Through our “Find a Job” program, WFO provides low-income job seekers with professional attire. During their appointment, clients receive a one-on-one consultation with a stylist, who works with the client to put together a professional interview wardrobe. Once the client has secured a position, they are invited to return to WFO for a second appointment where they receive a week’s worth of business clothing to use at their new job. This program gives our clients the confidence, network and experience they need to pursue their career and is made possible through donations we receive from our generous contributors. Click the logo for more info on how to donate! Pet Supplies Needed! Have extra pet supplies lying around, collecting dust? Donate them to a local animal rescue, preferably a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter like ARF. Click on the Puppies to learn more! Arguments to keeping the empty box: "I kept the box to return it."  Is it past the return policy? Used it, liked it, already sold it in last year's yard sale? Recycle it. "I need it to sell it." Great! Sell it now--stop procrastinating. "I need them for my next move." If you aren't planning on moving within the upcoming 6 months (and that's already half a year that boxes are consuming your space) post an ad on Craigslist or Freecycle.org--"Free Moving Boxes for Pick-Up, On Curb of [address]." You can post on Craigslist and go to grocery/department stores for stacks of free boxes when you ARE ready to move. It's not hard to find free boxes--trust me, I'm the queen of moving. Boxes usually aren't the best things to organize things in. Clear containers with lids are better.
